Active@ File Recovery

Maker: LSoft Technologies Platforms: Windows (desktop & Server)

Active@ File Recovery covers a broad filesystem list across three editions split by feature depth, each sold as either a Personal or a (more expensive) Corporate license — the Corporate price is what actually covers using it on someone else's data commercially, not a separate edition name.

File systems

Per LSoft's own product documentation, supported file systems include NTFS and ReFS, FAT and exFAT, HFS+ and APFS, XFS, JFS, UFS, Btrfs, and Ext2/Ext3/Ext4 — a genuinely broad spread covering Windows, Mac and Linux/Unix source drives in one tool, available across all three editions.

Recovery modes: three names, three actual jobs

LSoft's own terminology maps cleanly onto the recovery models used elsewhere on this site. QuickScan is a fast, filesystem-aware scan for recently deleted files — it reads surviving metadata directly, which is why it's quick and why it can still return original names and paths. SuperScan is the slower, deeper option: it detects deleted or damaged partitions and logical drives and scans disks with a damaged MBR, for cases where the filesystem structures themselves are the problem rather than a single deleted file. LastChance is the fallback "when nothing else works" — a signature-based recovery mode in the same family as the file-carving approach covered in File-System Recovery vs. File Carving. All three modes are available in every edition; what changes between editions is everything else — RAID support, the disk editor, custom signatures, and bootable media.

RAID

RAID reconstruction is not part of Standard — it's a Professional/Ultimate feature, and it's virtual reconstruction rather than a write-back repair: the software can virtually rebuild damaged RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5 and Span arrays, including the left/right, synchronous/asynchronous layout variants RAID 5 can use. That's meaningful array support for the price, though it's narrower than the dedicated RAID products elsewhere in this catalog — no vendor-specific NAS layout recognition or ZFS/Btrfs pool reconstruction here.

Disk images

The software can create a disk image from a source drive and open existing disk images for scanning — useful for preserving a point-in-time copy or working from an image captured elsewhere, though as with the other consumer tools on this page, that's a software imaging feature rather than a substitute for hardware-assisted acquisition from a physically unstable drive.

Editions and licensing

The three editions split cleanly by feature depth rather than by platform or file-system scope, which stays identical across all of them. Standard covers the core scan modes and file-system list without RAID or the disk editor. Professional adds the technical toolkit — RAID reconstruction, hex editor, custom file signatures for recovering unusual or proprietary formats, and a file organizer for sorting large recovery results. Ultimate adds bootable WinPE and Linux recovery media on top of Professional, for a system that won't boot into Windows at all. Each edition is sold as Personal or the pricier Corporate license, and the Corporate price — not a separate edition name — is what actually covers using the software on someone else's data commercially.
