GetDataBack Pro is primarily filesystem-reconstruction-oriented rather than a consumer product whose main differentiator is the size of its carving-signature catalog: it emphasizes rebuilding filenames and directory structures directly from NTFS, FAT/exFAT, EXT, HFS+ and APFS metadata, with automatic filesystem recognition and relatively little manual configuration needed. Its system requirements are Windows-only — understanding Windows, Linux and Apple filesystems does not make it a native Windows/macOS/Linux application.

File-system scope

Current official documentation explicitly supports NTFS, exFAT, FAT12/16, FAT32, EXT, HFS+ and APFS. Don't infer ReFS, XFS, Btrfs, ZFS or VMFS support from other Runtime products — those aren't documented for GetDataBack Pro itself.

Recovery scenarios and philosophy

Runtime names formatting, partitioning, virus attack, power/software failure, deletion, and storage the OS no longer recognizes as the scenarios GetDataBack Pro addresses — this is logical recovery, not physical-drive repair. The product works through four escalating recovery sophistication levels with automatic filesystem recognition, rather than exposing the dense manual parameter controls found in some technician-oriented tools. Do not state that it never falls back to raw carving without exact technical confirmation; treat the reconstruction-first framing as Runtime's documented emphasis rather than an absolute limit.

Source safety

Runtime explicitly describes GetDataBack Pro as read-only and states that it does not attempt to repair or write to the source drive, warning against installing software onto the affected drive itself. That's a deliberate recovery-only workflow by design — though a read-only scan still puts physical read stress on a mechanically failing drive, which software alone doesn't remove.

Disk images

GetDataBack Pro can create and use recovery images: Runtime documents uncompressed .img, compressed .imc, and raw sector-by-sector image creation, so a drive can be imaged once and worked from the image afterward. Image input and image creation are both confirmed; specialist multipass, head-map or hardware-acquisition integration for a physically struggling drive is not established in the documentation reviewed.

RAID

This distinction matters: Runtime's specialist RAID analysis is a separate product, RAID Reconstructor, not a feature built into GetDataBack Pro. RAID Reconstructor can analyze RAID 0/5 arrays, determine unknown parameters such as member order and block size, and produce a reconstructed image that GetDataBack Pro then reads. GetDataBack Pro participates in that workflow as the filesystem-recovery step, but the RAID-analysis capability itself belongs to RAID Reconstructor.

NAS and the wider Runtime ecosystem

Runtime separately offers RAID Reconstructor, NAS Data Recovery, Captain Nemo and DiskExplorer as their own products. Their individual capabilities — NAS-specific workflows included — stay attached to those products rather than GetDataBack Pro; this page covers GetDataBack Pro only.

Encryption

No broad native BitLocker, FileVault or LUKS unlocking matrix is established in the core GetDataBack Pro documentation reviewed for this listing. Don't infer encryption support from its NTFS or APFS filesystem support — those are separate capabilities.

Trial

The demo allows scanning, evaluation and file preview before purchase. Runtime states that after buying a license key, it can be entered into the already-open program without rerunning the recovery scan, after which recovered files can be copied out.

Important limitations

GetDataBack Pro is a logical-recovery tool for a mechanically working drive, not a physical-repair or unstable-media acquisition product on its own — a clicking or otherwise failing drive still needs an imaging/lab workflow first. Specialist RAID reconstruction and NAS-specific recovery live in Runtime's separate products, not in GetDataBack Pro itself, and broad native encryption support isn't established for it.
