Active@ Partition Recovery

Maker: LSoft Technologies Platform: Windows

The name undersells it: current versions of Active@ Partition Recovery aren't just about rebuilding partition tables and boot records. QuickScan and SuperScan filesystem analysis, signature-based file recovery, virtual-device creation for sector-size and start-offset transformations, and bootable WinPE/Linux recovery packages are all part of the current line, same three-tier structure as its sibling product.

Virtual discovery/recovery vs. writing metadata back to the disk

The product name can tempt a user into reaching for "repair partition" or "restore" actions before checking whether the recovered data is actually intact. Those are two different things, and the distinction matters here more than on most pages in this catalog: discovering and virtually reconstructing a partition's data is read-only and safe to explore freely, while writing repaired partition or boot metadata back to the disk is a change to the source that should happen only after you're confident it's the right geometry — and ideally after the data that matters has already been copied off. See Partition Table & Filesystem Discovery for how the read-only discovery phase works, and Recovery Copies for copying data off before any write-capable repair. Partition Loss and Drive Asks to Be Initialized cover the specific cases this tool targets.

What's actually in the current version

Beyond the core partition/boot-record rebuild, v26 includes QuickScan and SuperScan (the same filesystem-aware and deeper-analysis modes as Active@ File Recovery), signature-based file recovery for when partition structures alone won't get the data back, and virtual-device creation — a way to present a source with a transformed sector size or start offset without altering the original, useful for drives that were resized, cloned incorrectly, or migrated between controllers with different geometry assumptions. Professional and Ultimate also bundle bootable WinPE and Linux LiveCD packages for a system that won't boot into Windows at all.

Editions

Standard covers the core partition/boot-record rebuild and the QuickScan/SuperScan/signature recovery modes. Professional adds the disk editor, LastChance recovery mode, a file organizer, and bulk copy-all-data functionality for pulling everything off a drive in one pass. Ultimate adds the bootable WinPE and Linux LiveCD packages, plus the full Active@ File Recovery tool bundled in — useful if the case might need file-level recovery in addition to partition-level repair, without buying both products separately.
